Criteria

Wine estates
Dominant planting of classical vitis-vinifera grape varieties (minimum 75%) with limited possibility for hybrid varieties (maximum 25%).
Recognition of quality with repeated, good results at national and/or international wine competitions, or regular good ratings at local tasting committee(s).
Observable commitment to sustainability. A deliberate programme of vineyard maintenance with minimal use of chemical pesticides, or a certified organic or biodynamic approach (the latter is not a prerequisite, but a recommendation).
Effective efforts to avoid excessive yields per vine in relation to achieving the highest, qualitative potential of the grape varieties concerned.
The production volume, taking into account the aforementioned quality criteria, is such that long-term healthy operations are possible.

Beer Brewers
The brewery has its own boilers and an AGP licence.
The brewery also has examples in its range using ingredients from the region.
The brewery must demonstrate quality based on inspection by an internationally qualified Beer Sommelier or by winning a medal at a renowned brewing competition such as Dutch Beer Challenge.
It collaborates with regional high-end restaurants in developing and delivering special beers.
There should be a discernible commitment to sustainability as in packaging and logistics.

Bread bakeries
The ingredients used must be pure. Bread improvers are not allowed. This is where the artisanal high product quality is recognised.
The cereals used can be diverse, but of high quality and predominantly sourced from local growers.
The bread offered is fresh namely baked on the day.
The bakery has a discernible commitment to sustainability.

Heuvelland

Heuvelland is the rural part of South Limburg south of Sittard including the rather flat plateaus: the Central plateau, the Doenrade plateau and the Ubachsberg plateau. Furthermore, within the area focus of Maastricht-Heuvelland, it also includes the Belgian Voerstreek and the immediate surroundings of Maastricht.
